Sofie Sente (°1970) started in 1994 after graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp along with fellow students Robby Cleiren, Luc Nuyens and Sara De Bosschere de Roovers: an Antwerp theatre collective made up of four actors and producers. They never work with a director: every creative process is a joint search for a story that needs to be told at that moment. The actors immerse themselves in spoken-word theatre, bending to their will the classic repertoire of playwrights including Shakespeare, Chekhov and Aeschylus, or set to work with contemporary writers such as Paul Auster and Judith Herzberg. Although they might equally well make children’s theatre or venture into musical theatre. Photographer and stage designer Stef Stessel, who was part of the De Roovers project from the start, undoubtedly contributed to the typical De Roovers style.

Sofie took part in productions including Maria Stuart, A View from the Bridge, All My Sons, Alcestis, Uncle Vanya, Oresteia, Timon of Athens and The Iceman Cometh.

She has worked with theatre companies including De Appel (incl. De eenzame weg), Het Nationaal Toneel (Duifje Klok), Malpertuis (Troje Trilogie), De Bloedgroep, Ibycus (De Tolbrug), Lampe (De maten van het mogelijke), Het Toneelhuis (Kasimir en Karoline) and Het Vervolg (Duizend rozen).

She has appeared in films including Rundskop (Michaël Roskam) and The Broken Circle Breakdown (Felix Van Groeningen).

Sofie regularly teaches as a guest lecturer in the conservatoires of Antwerp, Maastricht and Leuven.
