Rudi Laermans (dramaturg) is a Flemish sociologist. He is a full professor at the Centre for Sociological Research of the Catholic University of Leuven, where he teaches theoretical sociology and critical social theory. Laermans is active in the Flemish arts field as a writer for various cultural media, as a dance critic and teacher at P.A.R.T.S. and as a dramaturg for Alexander Vantournhout, Ula Sickle and Aïda Gabriëls/oyster, among others. In 2015 he published Moving Together: Theorizing and Making Contemporary Dance, a first extensive study of contemporary dance that was immediately hailed as a standard work of contemporary dance theory. In it, he gives detailed descriptions of key works from the Flemish dance scene by figures including Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Meg Stuart, Jérôme Bel and Boris Charmatz, who were crucial for contemporary dance worldwide.
