Luc Schaltin studied photography and worked as technical director for arts centre STUK and dance festival Klapstuk in Leuven. Afterwards he started working in the Brussels Kaaitheater as a lighting and sound engineer. As a freelance lighting designer he completed an impressive and very diverse course in theatre, dance, opera and music. He made lighting designs for Jan Decorte (including Betonliebe / Fleischkrieg, Medeia and the operas Dido & Aeneas and Indian Queen), Kris Verdonck and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, but also for Blindman, Zita Swoon and many others. In 2013 he started a successful collaboration with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and dance company Rosas. Vortex Temporum, Golden Hours and Mitten wir im Leben Sind/ Bach cellosuiten are three of the nine light designs he did for her. In 2018 he also made light of the opera Orfeo & Majnun, with a premiere in the Brussels La Monnaie/De Munt and a tour in Aix-en-Provence, Valletta, Vienna, Krakow and Santa Maria del Feira.
