Luc Schaltin studied photography and worked as technical director for arts centre STUC and dance festival Klapstuk in Leuven. Afterwards, he gained more than 20 years of experience as a lighting and sound technician at the Kaaitheater. As a freelance lighting designer, he made an impressive and international career in theatre, dance, opera and music. He has a longstanding collaboration with Jan Decorte, for whom he made no fewer than 23 lighting designs. He has also designed for Kris Verdonck, Tine Van Aerschot and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Bl!ndman, Zita Swoon and many others. In 2013, he started his collaboration with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. In 2018, he was in charge of lighting for the opera Orfeo & Majnun, premiering at De Munt and touring Europe. Since 2020, Schaltin has worked with several young artists, including Hannah De Meyer, Khadija El Kharraz Alami, Enkidu Khaled and Tom Goossens.
