HERMESensemble (Antwerpen, BE) operates in the border zones of contemporary music and art. The core musicians of the collective create contemporary artistic stories in close collaboration with guest artists and a diverse audience.

HERMESensemble strives for cross-pollination with early music, jazz, pop, non-western music and electronic art. The productions transcend the traditional concert form through the synergies with theater, dance, visual arts, video, film and multimedia.

Experiment and encounter are the starting points of every production. HERMESensemble offers creative and performing young talent the opportunity and space to shift the boundaries of music in co-creation projects.

HERMESensemble was founded in 2000 by artistic director Koen Kessels and operates from its own studio in Het Kanaal (Wijnegem). The company can be followed annually at the major Belgian venues and festivals (including deSingel, Concertgebouw Brugge, Opera-Ballet Flanders, Flagey, Flanders Festival, de Bijloke). In addition, it is a returning guest in, among others, Muziekgebouw aan ‘t Ij Amsterdam (NL), Philharmonie de Luxembourg (LUX), Concerthaus Wien (AT), Barber Hall Birmingham (UK) and international festivals such as Roma Europe and the Venice Biennale (IT), Berliner Festspiele (DE), November Music (NL), and Mona Foma (AUS).

HERMESensemble is supported by the Flemish Government.
