Junior Akwety is a Belgian-Congolese multidisciplinary artist active in music, theatre, and artistic coaching. As a singer, actor, and coach, he develops a practice that blends stage performance, pedagogy, and collective creation. As an actor and dramaturg, he has collaborated on major productions such as Malcolm X (2016), L’Homme de la Mancha (La Monnaie/KVS, 2022), Who’s Tupac (KVS, 2023), Amour/Liefde by Pitcho Womba Konga (2024), Barbershop Chronicles by Inua Ellams (2025, directed by Junior Mthombeni and Michael De Cock) and Pilgrimage (Muziektransparant/Siebe Thijs, 2025).
Since 2023, he has been an artistic coach at the Antwerp Conservatory, where he supports emerging talents in various projects (Genzie, Fameus).
Junior is also the co-founder of Maisha vzw, with which he develops multidisciplinary projects such as Maisha in Concert, Buren, and the European project Rrrumba. His work explores the links between memory, music, movement, and communities, creating spaces for encounters and artistic freedom.
