Michele Rizzo is an Italian artist based in Milan whose practice weaves together choreography and visual arts. His work frequently explores themes of collective movement, the relational and emergent qualities of space, and the interplay between motion and imagination.
Rizzo’s major works include HIGHER xtn. (2018), acquired by the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam; Rest (2020), presented at the Quadriennale d’Arte in Rome and later acquired by Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin; and Reaching (2021), shown at KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin in collaboration with the Julia Stoschek Collection.
In 2021, he created the video work Rest, a reflection on the sudden global standstill brought on by the pandemic. Incorporating elements of his live piece for the Quadriennale in Rome, the video was also acquired by the Stedelijk Museum.
His more recent project, Coalescing towards (2023), is a traveling choreographic score that takes new shape in each location through collaborations with different ensembles of performers and musicians. It has been presented at STRUT Dance (Perth, Australia), Nuit Blanche (Toronto, Canada), and Palais de Tokyo during Paris Fashion Week.
Since 2020, Rizzo has also collaborated with leading fashion houses, including MARNI, Off-White, Magliano, and Moschino.
In parallel with his artistic career, he teaches and mentors at several institutions, including the SNDO School for New Dance Development (Amsterdam), HEAD – Genève University of Art and Design (Switzerland), and the Master’s program in Performance and Architecture at Roma Tre University (Italy).
