Soprano – Pedagogue

Marie van Luijk is a Dutch/Belgian soprano who obtained a Masters degree in Classical Singing in the class of Catrin Wyn-Davies at LUCA School of Arts and The Royal Conservatory of The Hague.

In The Hague, Marie mainly focused on early music singing. She received tutoring by the following (early) music specialists: Noa Frenkel, Francesca Aspromonte, Robin Blaze, Michael Chance, Pascal Bertin, Jill Feldman and Peter Kooij.

Marie was part of NKK NXT 21/22, a trainee program by ‘Nederlands Kamerkoor’. In this program she and 6 other singers/makers explored the place of choral music nowadays. Their end result is called: Re:quiem (see pictures and trailer in the audio/pictures pages).

Marie is very fond of singing baroque and early classical repertoire but her abilities ranges further than that.  You can also find her singing A. Berg, A. Previn and much more modern, experimental music.

A big part of Marie’s persona is that next to being a singer, she is a music teacher. She has worked and taught many different age groups. As an international intern, she worked in the School for Young Talent in Suriname. Marie is also very active in the youth work field and has done volunteering work for many years. This sprouted her passion for teaching and working with children, teenagers and adults in singing, music and arts in general. Marie is currently a singing teacher at the Academy of Geel (BE).

Van Luijk, being the broadly interested person that she is, makes her own music theatershows and would like to explore this path further. In 2018, she made a production called ‘I Am Semele’, in cooperation with Tom Baert (classical dancer, stage director and pedagogue). Marie is open minded and looking for ways to expand her horizon.
