The ambition to bring together the rich amalgam of theatre, dance, contemporary music and opera, set Aïda Gabriëls off onto a rich trajectory in the performing arts during and after her studies. Determined to develop her own emancipatory perspective on performing arts through profound artistic dialogue, she collaborated with Israeli director Sjaron Minailo, La Monnaie, Hollandfestival, Ultima Vez and Alexander Vantornhout. In 2016 she premiered the multifaceted soundscape opera project MEDEAMATERIAL (Muziektheater Transparant), where a soprano and double bass embody the unruly dilemma of the Medea figure as put to words by Heiner Müller. For Concertgebouw Brugge’s Soundcast, she addressed guiltiness with two dancers, live video and a percussionist in the piece I AM THE ENEMY YOU KILLED, MY FRIEND, inspired by Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem. Her reflection on the historical figure of Salomé in an upcoming creation tackles acquired assumptions in a similar ambiguous vein.
