Dahlia Pessemiers Benamar (1975) is an actress and theatre maker. She graduated from Studio Herman Teirlinck in 1998, and has acted with Tg STAN, De Roovers, Walpurgis, Toneelhuis, hetpaleis, Arne Sierens, Manah De Pauw, Karlijn Sileghem, and others. With the solo MozaIK in 2010, she began to make her own work under Dunia vzw, including theatre productions such as Secret Gardens, Mamba and Boom Toudou, and urban projects such as Heim and Shanti Shanti. For hetpaleis she made Baba in 2013, and in 2016 she joined Action Zoo Humain (whose work includes De WaarheidscommissieAmnes(t)ie and Dihya). Common threads in her work are different languages and music styles, and documentary theatre. In addition, Dahlia has acted in TV series, short films and films (including De Ridder), has delivered inclusive workshops, and in summer 2021 appeared at TAZ and the Zomer van Antwerpen with her solo De eerste keer (MOMENT). Thanks to a research grant, she has been developing her artistic interest in the world of the deaf since 2018, which, among other things, has resulted in the performance Kukunor with a mix of speaking and Flemish sign language.
