• Was born in Ostend in 1957 
  • Studied percussion at the Conservatory of Ghent
  • Studied composition under Lucien Goethals at the IPEM (Institute for Psychoacoustics and Electronic Music) 
  • Together with pianist Iris De Blaere founded the crossover group HardScore in 1989
  • Wrote an extensive oeuvre including 3 concerti, 5 symphonies, 24 piano sonatas, numerous chamber music works and various chamber operas
  • Taught composition at the Conservatory of Ghent until 2016
  • Won the first Sabam Award for Classical Music in 2013
