Julia Cheng is a creative director, choreographer and dance artist whose work has been presented internationally.

Her critically acclaimed choreography on Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club (directed by Rebecca Frecknall, with original cast featuring Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley) was the winner of 2022 Stage Debut Awards, and was also nominated for the 2022 Olivier Award (Best Theatre Choreography). She is also founder of the creative collective House of Absolute, for whom she created the dance work Warrior Queen which premiered at Sadler's Wells in London in May 2022.

An advocate of cross-disciplinary collaborations, Julia has worked with, among others, poet Lavinia Greenlaw, musicians Shingai and Floacist, composers Simon McCorry and Alex Ho, artist/sculptor Laila Muraywid, curator Kerry-Campbell and theatre director/activist Daniel York-Loh.

Other notable projects to date include an opera double-bill for Royal Opera House in London and a two-year residency with the Philharmonia Orchestra (with House of Absolute). She is currently developing an  'anti-opera' (as Director/Choreographer), Untold, together with composer Alex Ho.

Julia is also a judge and mentor for BBC Young Dancer, mentor for Breakin’ Convention (the biggest Hip Hop Festival in the UK), and patron of Next Generation Youth Theatre in her hometown of Luton.
