Paul Verrept (°1963) is author, graphic designer and illustrator. Between 1983 and 1987 he was a theatre director. In 1994 he made his debut as an author/illustrator. In the 1990's he illustrated several of Paul van Ostaijen's poems: Slaap, Sjimpansee and the famous Marc.
Paul Verrept was awarded with the Gouden Uil Award of the Young Reader (2005) and the Provincial Price for Literature for Het meisje de jongen de rivier. Mist won a White Raven Special Mention in Munich (2006). Kleine Pieter deed open (2011) won a Boekenwelp. His books have been translated to French, Danish, German, Spanish, Catalan, Korean, Japanese, Greek and Chinese.
A lot of his books were adapted for theatre. Paul Verrept also wrote texts for theatre: Twee vrienden (de Roovers/Villanella), Het verloren voorwerp (Villanella), Mijn lichaam van u (Kunst/Werk) … Muziektheater Transparant edited Het meisje, de jongen, de rivier. He wrote for Muziektheater Transparent Porselein, De koningin zonder land and Earth Diver.
His book De koningin zonder land, with drawings by Berlinde De Bruyckere, was published in 2013 by De Eenhoorn. In 2014 Muziektheater Transparant put this contemporary fairy-tale on stage, in a production by director Wouter Van Looy and composer Wim Henderickx.
Paul Verrept often collaborates with other artists. Illustrator Ingrid Godon, director Wouter Van Looy, author Bart Meuleman, actors Sara De Bosschere and Luc Nuyens and choreographer Marc Vanrunxt are some partners who play an important role in his work.
Paul Verrept is a lecturer at the Plantin Institute for typography.
