Lode Vercampt was already a prizewinner in the Jeunes Talents contest at the age of nine. He studied cello at the Conservatoire in Ghent and since then has commuted between concert and theatre stages.
He has written and performed music for various theatre productions by, among others, LOD Music Theatre, Villanella, Vooruit Arts Centre, the Beursschouwburg and Het Paleis. Tour performances of these productions have taken him to a variety of venues in America, Japan, Europe and Taiwan.
He has worked freelance for Il Novecento, Opera Vlaanderen, I Fiamminghi and Prima la Musica. But he has also appeared on stage with Gorki, Jo Lemaire, Johan Verminnen and Dirk Blanchard.
He maintains a balance between classical music and free improvisation and currently plays with several ensembles in Belgium and abroad, including Kris Defoort, Wim Mertens and the Osama Abdulrasol 5-tet.
His skilful classical technique does not prevent him from looking for adventure with his cello. On the contrary, it is precisely this that makes his style so varied. Lode Vercampt likes to explore the virtuoso and musical limits of his instrument and is constantly conjuring up new colours and emotions.
He also teaches cello at the academy in Tielt.
