Gijs Scholten van Aschat played with companies such as het Nationale Toneel, Orkater, Het Toneel Speelt and ZT Hollandia. He became known to a wider audience with the play Cloaca by Maria Goos, his roles in the films Tirza (nominated for a Gouden Kalf and Gouden Film) after the book by Arnon Grunberg and Doodslag (2012) with Theo Maassen.

Gijs Scholten van Aschat (1959) joined the ensemble of Toneelgroep Amsterdam in 2008.

In 2012 Scholten van Aschat made his debut as a literary author with his novella Beretta Bobcat, of which the personally narrated audio book was a gift during the Week of the Audio Book 2012.

Scholten van Aschat was nominated for the Louis d'Or in 2011 for his role in Richard III (Orkater) and received the Esta Audio Book Award 2012 for best narrator. In 1993 he received the Louis d'Or for his role in Decadence. For his role in the television series Oud Geld he received a Gouden Kalf in 1998. In 2001 he received the Johan Kaart Prijs and from 2004 till 2015 he was the bearer of the Albert van Dalsum ring, which he received from Pierre Bokma.
