The Norwegian tenor Magnus Staveland (1979) was born in Stavanger. He studied at the State Academy of Music in Oslo, and at the Royal Opera Academy in Copenhagen with Susanna Eken. He is a much sought after concert singer and frequently appears in concert venues and festivals throughout Europe and Asia. Engagements have brought him a.o. to Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro Real Madrid, Staatsoper Berlin, Innsbrucker Festwochen, Opéra Garnier Paris, Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, De Munt/La Monnaie, Vlaamse Opera Antwerp, Perm State Opera, Royal Swedish Opera and Norwegian National Opera.
Among previous engagements are the role of Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Ferrando in Cosi fan Tutte, Medoro in Haydn’s Orlando Paladino, Aret in Haydn’s Philemon und Baucis, Ati in Gluck’s Aristeo, Giove in Gluck’s Bauci e Filemone, Giove in Martín y Soler’s La Dora Festeggiante and many roles in operas by Monteverdi, Handel, Vivaldi, Cavalli and Scarlatti. He regularly works with conductors as Rinaldo Alessandrini, Ivor Bolton, Teodor Currentzis, Philippe Herreweghe, René Jacobs, Marc Minkowski, Andrew Parrot, Christophe Rousset, Jukka-Pekka Saraste and Marc Soustrot.
CD recordings include Celio in Handel's Germanico, Polifonte in Vivaldi’s Oracolo in Messenia, Fileno in Martin y Soler's Il Sogno and vocal music by Edvard Grieg. Haydn’s Orlando Paladino, in which he performed as Medoro, and Cavalli's La Didone, in which he had the role of Enea, were released on DVD.
