Jokke Martens (1990, Genk), a baritone, completed his Singing studies at the Antwerp Conservatoire under Stephanie Friede. It was there that he was given the chance to work with Lucienne van Deyck, Jozef de Beenhouwer and Guy Joosten. Apart from this, he also took lessons from Abbie Furmansky, Thomas Michael Allen, John Norris and others.
To augment his artistic skills, he is studying to be a director and teacher at the drama academy in Maastricht.
At the age of 19 Jokke made his debut in the European premiere of Little Women. He later appeared in the Nationale Reisopera’s production of Wolf-Ferrari’s Il segreto di Susanna, appeared in Opera Vlaanderen’s production In tussentijd... and in Puccini’s Gianni Schicci at the opera in Oslo. He has sung as a soloist with the Nationaal Orkest van België and has made several appearances with Opera Nijetrijne, in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte, in Mondo aan de Schene and in Haydn’s Orlando Paladino. He set up ‘Ode an die Freunde’ with several friends with the aim of performing classical music with a young and fresh approach, frequently departing from the classical repertoire and giving it a theatrical twist.
