The African-American artist, sculptor, quilter, performance artist, installation artist, and print-maker was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2016 and Smithsonian Visionary Artist in 2019. Captivating audiences with her diverse media, blending beauty, horror, and humor to address racism, sexism, family dynamics, and injustices, and renowned for her bead and glass work, Scott has challenged art and craft hierarchies for over five decades. She holds a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from Instituto Allende, Mexico. Scott's accolades include grants, residencies, and honors from the National Endowment for the Arts, Tiffany Foundation, and Smithsonian Institute. Her work is featured in major collections such as the Baltimore Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Represented by Goya Contemporary Gallery and Moblia Gallery, Scott will open a 50-year retrospective in 2024, co-organized by the Baltimore Museum of Art and Seattle Art Museum.
