An emotional journey through Franz Schubert's Winterreise, reimagined for now.

In an obscure, raw substance, 4 figures wander. Perhaps they are human beings. Again and again they perform the same actions. They search for what binds them to this place, from which they are each in their own way alienated. A place that is becoming more and more unlivable. In the musical theater performance Winterreise, Schubert's classic song cycle is performed in its entirety. In a whirlwind of music that surrounds the audience non-stop, the original work is dissected and reduced to its essence: the unbearable lightness of existence. Through images, portraits and landscapes in motion, a desolate in-between world is shown that is metaphorical of this lonely finitude. For 1 hour and 22 minutes (the entire duration of the song cycle), the audience is taken on a journey through the inner world of 4 individuals and is given a poetic insight into man's constant existential struggle. As an ultimate, absurd act of resistance, the protagonists go in search of love, beauty and freedom in an empty and finite universe.
