Songs of war

Monteverdi's Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda and Heiner Goebbels' Songs of Wars I've seen are indictments of the absurdity of war. 

Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda is one of the iconic works from the Baroque period, the struggle between two lovers, the struggle between religions, a possible indictment of the absurdity of violence and extremism. The texts of Gertrude Stein are used by Goebbels in his indictment. It is a meditation on the effects of war on women, reflected by Gertrude Stein’s extracts from memoirs of life in Vichy (France) during World War II. The German composer Heiner Goebbels, inspired by her book, produced a theatrical composition, mainly performed by women.
