Nothing is as thrilling as a murder mystery, and nothing as relaxing as a musical murder mystery

After the First World War, the murder story became wildly popular, with its grotesque murder plots, cut telephone lines, secret passages, locked rooms, know-it-all baronesses, nimble butlers, headstrong detectives, and the inevitable line: “Someone in this room did it.” Horror has little impact here, and justice always prevails. The more intense the real world, the greater the success of the whodunit genre. Today is no exception.

In 2023, Les Âmes Perdues, Muziektheater Transparant, Tom Goossens, and Mitch Van Landeghem already turned the operetta genre on its head with Fledermaus Forever. In Killer Thriller, they now turn their sights on the whodunit genre, unfolding not just one but several murder mysteries at once. A film screening is abruptly disrupted, someone disappears at sea, characters drop dead only to reappear in another storyline, and plots intertwine. Lies, corpses, and songs pile up as the tension between the familiar and the unreliable keeps rising. Meanwhile, the question emerges: why does someone always have to die to make a good story? What is it about a murder mystery that makes it so seductive? What kind of music makes for the perfect murder? And above all: who did it?

Brace yourself for an overdose of crime.
