In L’Orfeo, Claudio Monteverdi heralded the beginning of opera history in brilliant fashion. Young singers and musicians relive the music under guidance of Wouter Van Looy and Nicolas Achten. 

The mythical story of this opera is about the sad fate of the musician Orfeo who must relinguish his beloved Eurydice preùaturely to the underworld on his wedding day. The mythical story of this opera is about the sad fate of the musician Orfeo who must relinquish his beloved Eurydice prematurely to the underworld on his wedding day. With his heart and songs as weapons, the despairing Orfeo attempts to bring her back. To stage L’Orfeo, Transparant is bringing together a group of highly-motivated and talented young singers and instrumentalists. Their challenge is to create a unique version of this baroque masterpiece in a short period of rehearsals. Wouter Van Looy will be directing the production, flanked by the Mexican choreographer and video artist Vivian Cruz. Nicolas Achten is the musical director and, assisted by Laurence Renson (singing coach) and Marcin Lasia (orchestral coach), he guarantees an adventurous exploration of Monteverdi’s first opera.
