A musictheatreproject about two mythical characters from the American West: Calamity Jane and Billy the Kid.
Calamity/Billy is built around two mythical figures of the American west, Calamity Jane and Billy the Kid. This two-part program involves pairing two written works and two composers to give an intimate, secret and murmured view of these two famous outlaws. The first part is a short piece by the American composer Ben Johnston, Calamity Jane to Her Daughter. The second part is a commission to the English composer Gavin Bryars on Michael Ondaatje’s The Collected Works of Billy the Kid.
