Monteverdi's Madrigals are the starting point for Muziektheater Transparant’s youth opera 2014.
Every summer, Transparant invites a group of young singers and musicians to go on an unforgettable opera trip. They merge a whole opera production in no time. These young people determine the direction themselves: their energy and creativity are what drives the production process. This always yields not only a staggering result, but also unforgettable memories, and for some of them it is a stepping stone to a professional career. Canti d’Amor II is a reply to the successful Canti d’Amor I and is once again founded on several of Monteverdi’s loveliest madrigals. Monteverdi’s music is bursting with dramatic tension. What is more, his madrigals lie so close to the characters portrayed that they almost naturally allow themselves to be forged into an opera. The director Wouter Van Looy, together with conductor Nicolas Achten, guides the youthful creative urge in the right direction.
