Consistent Fantasy is Reality

A heroic character catapults herself into intergalactic fantasy worlds, far away from patriarchy, censorship and political domination. 

Turkish artist Gaye Su Akyol is a true phenomenon in the Turkish pop scene: she combines punk, grunge, pop, psychedelic rock and Turkish folk music into popular hits. In Consistent Fantasy is Reality, she shares her experience as a musician in a male-dominated world, and her artistic weapons to fight against it. She outlines scenes of discrimination against women and artists: from attempts at censorship by political rulers to gatherings of men playing cards and drinking tea in cafes where women aren’t welcome. Considering the universal character of these experiences of sexism and abuse, Su Akyol uses the power of imagination and music to tell this story. 

Performing brand new music, she’s assisted by DJ Ipek - renowned in the Berlin and international club scene - and musicians and singers from the Komische Oper Berlin. Together they open the gate to dream parallel landscapes, sending the audience on an intergalactic music rocket into alternative times and spaces: a era with powdered noses, wigs and hoop skirts, a futuristic timelaps and finally to a world where the autocrat is overthrown with the power of drum beats, glitter and sequins.
