Jeroen Malaise (°1971, Antwerp, Belgium) played different keyboard instruments from an early age on, amongst them clavichord, harpsichord and piano.
He graduated in 1996 for piano with summa cum laude and in 2000 for harpsichord with magna cum laude, both at the Brabants Conservatory Tilburg. For composition he took classes with Wim Henderickx and Luc Van Hove at the Conservatory Antwerp, and earned his bachelor’s degree with magna cum laude. For baroque improvisation he took classes with Ewald Demeyere.
Jeroen is performing in several chamber music ensembles, and his repertoire stretches from Renaissance to Contemporary music.
With Muziektheater Transparant he performed in Porselein, a musical theatre production which was selected by the cultural editor of a leading Belgian newspaper, ‘De Standaard’, as one of the best productions of 2010.
With Zonzo Compagnie he performed in Listen to the Silence about and with music of John Cage. This production toured throughout Europe and Canada and won several international awards: in 2012 the international YAMA Award for most innovative and creative music performance addressing a young audience, and in 2013 the European YEAH! Award for the Performance of the Year.
In 2008 he won the Jazz Costa Public Award (with Groove Juice Special) and in 2015 and 2017 the Cantabile Composition Contest
As a music teacher he is teaching at the Academie voor Muziek en Woord in Borgerhout, Antwerp, Belgium.
