In Nightshade: Aubergine, Claron McFadden goes in search of the common roots of our various cultures by focusing on one of the most iconoclastic ingredients on the culinary scene: the aubergine.

Despite the huge migration that it has experienced, this age-old fruit from the nightshade family has always managed to adapt without losing its striking identity.

Along with documentary filmmaker Lisa Tahon, Claron McFadden take the migrationroute of the aubergine in reverse direction, back to the roots in the Far East. During the first part she travels the Mediterranean: Spain, Morocco, Sicily, Greece and Turkey.

During each visit, Claron Mcfadden is a guest in people's homes, she learns a local aubergine recipe and she practices a traditional song. She takes her achievements back home: they form the basis for a culinary and theatrical concert about our desire for identity in this nomadic, ever-changing world.

Nightshade: Aubergine let the audience experience the rich aubergine cuisine combined with travel stories, a documentary film and live music with influences from many cultures. See also the BLOG
