Stefan Bracaval graduated as a classical flute player at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp in 1990. From a very young age, he was intrigued by the freedom and creativity of improvisation and he decided to continue to explore this further in jazz.

He was awarded the First Prize at the Brussels Jazz Ralley (1992) edition and the SABAM Prix Nicola Dor in 1994. He plays with Kenny Wheeler, Bert Joris, Brussels Jazz Orchestra, amongst others. His CD Insight Inside (KLARA 2007) is a collection of his own eclectic compositions (other recordings with Pierre Anckaert & Brussels Chamber Orchestra, Multitude et al.)

His curiosity for new musical paths also led him to exploring world music (Flamenco/Jose Toral, Amparo Cortés & Chano Lobato and Arabische crossovers/Weshm & Rihla). He is often invited for recording sessions by bands like dEUS, Hooverphonic and Multitude.

He plays the flute, bass flute, conical Boehm flute and his laptop, which he uses as an extension of his instrument.
