Jean-Philippe Poncin (°1977) graduated as a clarinettist at the Royal Conservatories of Brussels and Mons. In addition, he focused on the tenora (Catalan shawm).

His love goes out to the chamber music, making music in small groups where human encounter is the key. From the openness and freedom within the chamber music, he made trips to contemporary music, improvisation, rock, folk music and theater.

In the past years he has been involved in the productions of music theatre LOD, where he has worked together with composer Dick van der Harst, with, among others, Quatuor Danel, Oxalys and Massive Central.

For a long time Jean-Philippe Poncin has been passionated by 18th and 19th century music. He has set to studying this music and its performance on historic instruments.

He played with several orchestras such as les Agrémens (Guy Van Waas), Il Fondamento en Octophoros (P. Dombrecht), Il Gardellino (J. De Winne / M. Ponseele), B’Rock (R. Jacobs), La Grande Ecurie et la Chambre du Roy (J.C. Malgoire), Les Talens Lyriques (Ch. Rousset), Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht, …

In 2012, he founded WOLF, a group of wind instruments of the 18th century with which he also gave a serie of concerts around Mozart's quintet for clarinet & strings on a reconstruction of Anton Stadler's basset clarinet by Andreas Schöni.

In 2014, he was invited by jazz pianist and composer Kris Defoort for Daral Shaga, an opera creation by Feria Musica.
